Chapter 9 - The Name in My Medical File

I recognized the clinic logo immediately.

Every prenatal appointment. Every lab result. My due date. Blood type. Allergies.

And beneath them, a second document titled EMERGENCY CONSENT AUTHORIZATION.

My signature was at the bottom.

Except I had never signed it.

Rebecca read the page twice. “This document gives Dominic’s designated family representative authority to make emergency decisions if Ava is unconscious.”

“Who is the representative?” I asked.

She scrolled.

VICTOR MORETTI.

Dominic stood so fast his chair hit the wall.

“No.”

Rebecca kept reading. Her face changed.

“What?” I asked.

“The authorization includes temporary custody of the child after delivery if both parents are deemed unavailable.”

My hands went cold.

Cassandra looked sick. “That’s what Peter was trying to prove. Victor wasn’t just planning a board coup. He was building a legal chain around the baby.”

“Why?”

Dominic answered before anyone else.

“Because the trust expands when my first child is born.”

I turned slowly. “What expands?”

He did not look at me.

“Voting control.”

I wanted to scream.

Instead, I whispered, “You knew my pregnancy changed the company?”

“I knew it changed my father’s trust. I did not know Victor was targeting you.”

“You keep saying that like it makes any of this better.”

He stepped toward me. I stepped back.

Cassandra pointed at the screen. “There’s more.”

A security folder contained camera stills from our house.

Our bedroom.

The nursery.

My private bathroom.

Someone had placed hidden cameras inside my home.

Marco swore.

Then a new file appeared on the screen by itself.

LIVE_FEED_03.

A window opened.

The camera showed our nursery in real time.

A man wearing gloves entered the room.

He carried a small black case.

Dominic leaned toward the screen.

“That’s inside my house.”

The man opened the case.

May you like

Inside were syringes.

Then he looked directly into the hidden camera and smiled.
