Chapter 19 - The Third Viewer

The image was blurry, but federal technicians enhanced the phone screen enough to identify the caller.
Stephen Pike, the longtime legal administrator from Cole Holdings.
He had not merely leaked forged records during the board meeting.
He had helped design the legal structure Marcus planned to use after Adrian's death.
When agents arrived at Pike's home, he was gone.
His wife said he had left before dawn carrying a passport and one suitcase.
A border alert was issued.
Maria looked at Adrian. "How many people did Marcus buy?"
"Enough to make me question everyone."
"Don't let him take that too."
Adrian understood what she meant.
Marcus had taken money, Claire, years of peace, and nearly Oliver. Adrian would not let him take his ability to trust anyone ever again.
Pike was arrested at a private terminal before boarding a flight to Montreal.
He agreed to cooperate within hours.
His testimony connected Marcus directly to Claire's brake sabotage, the forged trust documents, surveillance at the mansion, and the plan to frame Maria after Oliver's fall.
Vanessa also entered a formal plea agreement. She admitted she had known about financial crimes, helped hide evidence after Claire's death, and deliberately endangered Oliver in an attempt to silence Maria.
She insisted she never intended Oliver to die.
Maria heard that and said quietly, "Intent doesn't catch a falling baby."
Months later, the criminal hearings began.
Marcus entered court in a dark suit with the same confident posture he had worn in Adrian's boardroom.
Then prosecutors played Claire's recording.
His expression changed.
Then they played the balcony footage.
His confidence cracked.
Adrian testified.
Maria testified.
Vanessa testified against Marcus and then accepted responsibility for her own actions.
When court recessed, Adrian stepped into the hallway and found Maria sitting alone.
"You okay?" he asked.
She nodded, then shook her head.
"I don't know."
He sat beside her.
A court officer approached carrying an envelope.
"Mr. Cole? This was submitted with evidence from Ms. Claire Cole's storage materials. It was sealed for you."
Adrian opened it.
Inside was one final letter.

The first line read:
Adrian, if Oliver is old enough to ask about me when you read this, tell him I tried to come home.
