MY DAUGHTER WHISPERED, “SHE’S NOT MY NEW MOMMY” — THEN I CHECKED THE CAMERAS

The second I walked through the front door, my four-year-old daughter ran straight into me and wrapped both arms around my leg.

She was shaking.

Not crying the way kids cry over a broken toy.

Shaking.

Her little fingers were locked around the stuffed bunny she carried everywhere, and when I bent down, I saw tears running silently down her cheeks.

“Sweetheart, what happened?”

She looked past me toward the hallway.

Then she whispered something that made my stomach drop.

“She’s not my new mommy.”

I froze.

“What do you mean?”

My daughter pressed the bunny against her chest so hard its floppy ears folded beneath her hands.

“She scares me when you’re gone.”

For a few seconds, I couldn’t breathe.

The house was quiet.

Too quiet.

Then I heard the soft click of heels from the other room.

Vanessa appeared in the hallway with a calm smile, like nothing was wrong.

“There you are,” she said. “I was wondering when you’d get home.”

My daughter immediately stepped behind me.

That was when I knew.

Something had happened in my house.

Something Vanessa thought I would never see.

I turned toward the television.

And remembered the security cameras. https://tempo.treeiq.biz/blog/my-daughter-whispered-she-s-not-my-new-mommy-then-i-checked-the-cameras
