Chapter 13 - Geneva

Twelve hours later, Adrian walked through Geneva Airport with two phones, no luggage, and a headache that felt like a nail behind his eyes.
Claire walked beside him.
He had argued against it.
She had ignored him.
“Don’t start,” she said.
“I didn’t say anything.”
“You have a face for it.”
Behind them, Ortiz coordinated with Swiss authorities. Noah stayed in New York with Claire’s sister under guard.
Adrian hated leaving him.
Claire hated it more.
That was the only reason they had almost turned around.
The storage facility sat beneath an old private bank near the lake. Richard had already tried to access the box and been refused because he lacked the physical key.
At 3:40 p.m., Adrian entered with a Swiss investigator and Claire.
Box 814 contained no gold.
No cash.
Only paper.
Ledgers. Signed guarantees. Trust documents. Letters.
And a sealed video drive labeled: FOR ADRIAN.
Claire looked at him. “Your father planned for you to see this.”
They opened the ledger first.
It documented twenty-seven years of hidden transfers between Vale and Hart entities.
Some appeared designed to conceal losses.
Some hid beneficial ownership.
Some were clearly criminal.
At the bottom of multiple pages was Martin’s signature.
Adrian swore.
Then Claire found a later document.
An amendment signed six months before Thomas died.
“If any concealed Hart liability is enforced against Vale International,” she read, “the Hart beneficial stake transfers to Thomas Vale’s direct descendants.”
Adrian frowned. “Meaning?”
“Richard never truly owned the leverage he thought he owned.”
The Swiss attorney confirmed it. “If these documents are authentic, Hart’s hidden claims may collapse entirely.”
Adrian turned to the video drive.
Thomas appeared on screen twenty-five years younger.
He looked exhausted.
“Adrian, if you are watching this, I failed to clean up what I helped create.”
Adrian stopped breathing.
Thomas confessed to financial misconduct.
He confessed to the affair with Evelyn.
He confessed that Vanessa was his daughter.
Then he said something no one expected.
“Richard believes Vanessa is the only other child I had.”
Claire looked sharply at Adrian.
Thomas continued.
“He is wrong.”
Adrian’s pulse jumped.
“There is another child. A son.”
The video glitched.
Then Thomas said a name.
“Michael Ellis.”
Adrian turned toward Ortiz.
“Ellis?”
Claire whispered, “Martin.”
The final seconds played.

Thomas looked directly into the camera.
“Martin is my son.”
