Chapter 15 - Noon

Dominic looked at the clock.

10:41 a.m.

Seventy-nine minutes until Brooke's hidden ownership stake became legally effective.

Julian stared at the filing in horror.

"I never signed that."

Dominic shoved the laptop toward him. "That's your digital certificate."

"I signed a refinancing package last month. She must have inserted this."

"You keep saying she must have. You keep giving her opportunities."

Julian slammed both palms on the table. "I was trying to help your wife because you don't trust anyone enough to delegate!"

Dominic's temper finally broke.

"You gave away authority you did not understand because being asked made you feel important. Do not call that helping me."

Julian flinched.

Natalie entered, calmer now. "Can it be stopped?"

The CFO nodded slowly. "If we prove fraud before the filing goes live, the board can seek an emergency injunction. But we need direct evidence Brooke knew this specific transaction was hidden from Dominic."

Emma spoke from the doorway. "What about her phone?"

Brooke's phone had been taken by police as potential evidence, but Dominic remembered something else.

Brooke had synced her messages to the family iPad in the sunroom because she liked answering texts while exercising.

Emma found it under a stack of magazines.

The device was still logged in.

They did not dig through private conversations. Dominic's attorney called the detective first, explained the situation, and received instructions on preserving the device without contaminating evidence.

One notification appeared on the lock screen before anyone touched it.

STERLING: Once the 49% hits at noon, he can't remove you without triggering the buyout. Bellweather is ready.

Below it, Brooke had replied at 4:32 a.m.:

By 6 Natalie will sign the house, by 12 we control Maritime, and by Monday Dominic comes home to a new reality.

Julian sat down hard.

"Oh God."

Dominic photographed nothing. He simply handed the untouched tablet to the detective.

At 11:18, a judge granted a temporary emergency stay on the ownership filing.

At 11:44, police returned to Brooke.

This time they carried handcuffs.

Brooke stared at Dominic as the detective read her rights.

"You're really going to let them do this?"

Dominic's answer was quiet.

"You did this."

Then Brooke smiled.

"You still don't know the worst thing I did."
