Chapter 12 - The Flash Drive

The flash drive contained enough evidence to destroy half a dozen careers.

There were spreadsheets showing Graham siphoning money from Vale Systems for four years. There were recordings of calls with Nolan. There were photographs of Victoria signing forged transfer papers.

And there was one video filmed secretly in the mansion library.

Victoria stood beside the fireplace, furious.

“I agreed to scare Arthur,” she said. “I agreed to hide Leo for one night. I never agreed to hurt him.”

Graham’s voice came from off camera. “You agreed the moment you took the first dollar.”

“He’s a child.”

“He’s leverage.”

“You said Arthur would sign.”

“He will. Or we create a tragedy he can’t recover from.”

Victoria stepped toward the camera. “If you touch Leo, I go to Arthur.”

Graham laughed.

“You really think Arthur will believe the wife who forged his name?”

The video ended.

Arthur sat motionless.

Elena watched him. “She tried to stop it.”

“She put my son in a wall.”

“I know.”

“She drugged him.”

“I know.”

Arthur’s voice cracked. “I loved her.”

Elena did not offer comfort he had not earned. “Then let that hurt. But don’t let it confuse what she did.”

Detective Kim copied the files and sent them to a secure server. “This gives us conspiracy, fraud, kidnapping. If Victoria cooperates, Graham is finished.”

“If she lives,” Arthur said.

A new message arrived on Elena’s phone: a live photograph of Mateo tied to a chair inside what looked like a boathouse.

In the corner of the image, part of Victoria’s dress was visible.

“They’re together,” Elena said.

Kim zoomed in. “Old timber walls. Water stain. Blue pulley.”

Arthur knew the place.

“The Vale boathouse.”

Kim ordered a tactical team to move quietly toward the river.

Arthur looked at the clock.

11:18 a.m.

Graham expected him at noon.

Elena reached for the flash drive.

Kim stopped her. “You’re not going.”

Elena’s eyes hardened. “My brother is in there.”

“And that’s exactly why you’re not thinking clearly.”

Arthur picked up the original envelope.

Kim turned on him. “Neither are you.”

Arthur slid the envelope into his jacket.

“You said you needed time to position your team.”

“Yes.”

“Then I’ll give you time.”

He walked toward the door.

May you like

Elena followed.

Kim swore and called for backup.
