Chapter 12 - The Trap Built for Sienna

Sienna listened to the voicemail three times.
On the fourth, she stopped shaking.
"He wants me scared enough to go back."
Nico reached for her phone.
"Block him."
"No."
"No?"
"I spent months doing what he wanted because I was afraid of what would happen if I made him angry. I'm done making decisions around his anger."
Gavin sent photographs of bank transfers from Ferrante Group into S. Ferrante Family Services LLC.
Park called that last message "helpfully threatening."
Nico called it proof Gavin had underestimated his daughter.
Sienna stared at the transfer records.
"The account is in my maiden name. What identification did they use?"
"A driver's license scan and a tax ID."
"My license was stolen two years ago."
Sienna had lost her wallet during a charity dinner.
"He didn't lose my wallet."
"He took it," Nico said.
Park sent financial-crimes investigators to the bank that opened the shell account.
But the man who opened the account was clearly Raymond Cole.
"All of them."
"Looks that way," Park said.
"His mother. His sister. His uncle."
"And Elaine."
"My whole marriage was surrounded by people who knew."
"Mommy, I found the little phone."
Mila held up a small pink plastic object.
"Where was that?"
"My bunny house."
"When did you put it there?" Sienna asked.
"Daddy said no talking, so I made Bunny remember."
"You sign it after delivery, Sienna. You can hate me later."
"I am not giving you control of my children's money."
"Then I'll take control another way."
"Stop doing this in front of the child. She remembers everything."
"Then we'll teach her what to forget."
A man's voice.
"The hospital paperwork is ready," he said. "But Ferrante has to believe the theft was Sienna's idea."
Nico looked at Thomas.
Thomas looked back.
May you like
They both recognized that voice.
It belonged to Ferrante Group's chief financial officer, Daniel Reed.
