Chapter 17 - Sienna Stops Running

Sienna found Gavin in the caretaker cottage.
Mila sat on the floor near the fireplace, crying but unharmed.
Gavin stood behind her with one hand on the child's shoulder.
"Let her go," Sienna said.
"Come inside."
"I am inside."
"Close the door."
"You ruined everything," he said.
"You held our daughter down while your sister cut her hair."
"I didn't cut it."
"That's your defense?"
"She wouldn't stop talking."
For months, Gavin's anger had shaped every room she entered. She checked his mood before speaking. She watched his hands. She apologized before she knew what she had done wrong.
"Mila," Sienna said softly, "come to Mommy."
"No."
"Take your hand off her."
"You think your father makes you brave?"
"No. My daughter did."
"You have no idea what comes next. Your name is on the accounts. Your signatures are everywhere."
"Forged signatures."
"Prove it."
"We already are."
"Daniel is talking. Raymond is talking. Elaine is in custody. Your mother is in custody."
Gavin shook his head. "You're lying."
"Sabrina's next."
"Don't bring my sister into this."
"Your sister held our child down."
"Where are you going to run?"
"Canada."
"They know."
"Mexico."
"They know."
"You think Nico owns the world?"
"No. That's the difference between him and you."
"Sign these."
"What are they?"
"A statement that you created Northline. That your father threatened me. That you asked my family to help move the money."
"No."
"Sign, and you take Mila home."
"No."
"Sienna."
"No."
"No."
She drove both hands into Gavin's chest.
Mila tore free and ran to her mother.
Marcus entered from outside while Nico came through the tunnel door.
His hand closed around a carving knife.
"Don't."
Gavin pressed the blade against his own palm, wild-eyed.
"You all think I'm finished?"
Sienna held Mila behind her.
Gavin looked at her.

Then he smiled.
"Ask your father what happens when Ferrante Group's board sees the rest of the files I released an hour ago."
